Bremelanotide PT-141 (BPT-141) was originally developed from the peptide hormone Melanotan II to induce sunless tanning. In its initial testing, Melanotan did induce tanning but also caused sexual arousal and spontaneous erections as unexpected side effects in nine out of ten of the original volunteer test subjects.
